Local (adj):
relating to or concerned with a town or district rather than a larger area

The San Francisco North Bay landscape is my lifelong home and gives me my identity and sense of place. A few times a year, my husband and I go on “bio-regional” vacations to explore our local surroundings. When we vacation here, we support our local economy, save energy, and have fun discovering the unique things about our area.

My sense of place comes with this mindful observation and reflection: I envision a world where nature informs everyone’s lives, where we use locally grown food and products, and where our work benefits our community.

To that end, I am a writer and a graphic designer, helping to promote the visions of our artists, businesses, and nonprofits. Currently I am developing a project in our town where public art and bike paths merge.

Interview Excerpts

What makes you tick?

Our community. Hanging out with people. I love creative expression, spiritual connection, spontaneity, network intelligence, communication, working for the greater good and increasing my awareness of universal consciousness. Bringing the natural world aspect and the community aspect of life together is my focus.

Do you have any confessions?

I eat chocolate almost everyday, and that’s not grown in my bioregion, so I suppose that could be considered a serious eco-confession. I also have a really low gas-mileage car, but I usually walk or bicycle since we live near downtown. It’s the same car I’ve had since I started driving—a ’66 Mustang.
